“Prevention of Grievances in any industries is better than cure”

INTRODUCTION
Grievances are concerns, problems or complaints raised by a staff member. Any worker may at some time have problems or concerns with their work, working conditions or relationships with colleagues that they wish to raise with management. Issues that may cause grievances include; terms and conditions of employment, health and safety, work relations, bullying and harassment, new working practices/organizational changes, and discrimination (http://www.acas.org.uk).

Within an industry, the prevention of grievances is better than cure, because where there are grievances there is no production due to workers refusal engaging in production. And if there are no grievances in industries it means production will be high in a certain industry as a result the production will be high.

The prevention of grievances should base on the following strategies; Policy might be developed on collective bargaining, Presence of freedom among workers, equality, and decision making, Establishment of Laws so as everybody should know their role and responsibility, Employer should aim to improve but not to punish, Meeting to discuss the situation, and establishment of communication. Due to this I argue the statement “Prevention of grievances in any industry is better than cure.

Definition of the key terms
Grievance means a complaint by an employee (or union) that management is inaccurately or unfaith implementing the labour contract, (Katz, H. C., & Kochan, T. A., 2000).

A grievance is a complaint by any person charging an attorney with misconduct related to his or her character, integrity, professional standing or conduct, (www.jud.ct.gov/pdf).

Grievances are concerns, problems or complaints that employees raise with their employers, (http://dictionary.reference.com).

Generally, Grievances means a wrong considered as grounds for complaint, or something believed to cause distress, or a complaint or resentment, as against an unjust or unfair act.

Prevention of Grievances means series of activities used by organization or industries for the purpose of preventing complaint from workers to management.

The following is the argument that “Prevention of Grievances in any industries is better than cure”:-

Production increasing, If in any industries there is grievances both workers and management will be focused on how to solve the problem through negotiation, and dispute resolution rather than in production hence production in industries run bankrupt. But if the prevention of grievances will be taken, it means that workers will have no complain with management hence production will be high in a certain industry. This is due increase of managerial and workers inputs, outputs, and outcome.

High morale in industries, the morale of workers in any industries depending much on absence of any grievances. When there is a grievance in any industries, workers will not work in morale because of they have a lot of complaint and the only way for them to achieve their goals is to reduce working capacity which is goes hand in hand with low morale. But, if an industry will prevent occurrence of grievances so early it means, workers will be paid high amount and also they will work in morale because they will not have any complaint with management hence an industry will improve on provision of social services.

Innovation and creativity, In order to sustain a certain industries needs high innovation and creativity. The one who are responsible for being innovate and creativity in provision of services or product are workers. Therefore, if workers will have a lot complaint to the management it means workers will not work basing on creativity and innovative. What is needed is to prevent grievances so early in an industry so as to pave a way to workers to be innovative and creative so as to improve product and services produced by industries.

Time and resources utilization, grievances led to poor management of time and poor resources utilization in sense that, when in a certain industries have grievances problem, workers will attend in work place as they want but not according to rules and regulation of an organization, there will be dodges of workers, and also they will not utilize resources of industry they have properly together will misuses of fund. A lot of time will be on Mediation and arbitration so as to settle the dispute. But if within an industry will prevent grievances at early time, workers will work all time, no dodgers, workers will utilize resources properly as a result improvement on provision of services and product.

Maintenance of organization behavior and discipline, the behavior or discipline of workers depend much with absence of grievances in an industries. When there is grievances the behavior of workers become problem and disturb the management because of forcing the management to fulfill the demand of workers including collective bargaining and working condition. But if an industry will prevent the problem early the behavior of workers will be good and they will respect management, rules, and regulation.

CONCLUSION
Prevention of grievances is necessary within an organization because it provide positive results as explained above. Therefore, the following strategies should be considered so as to prevent occurrence of grievances;  Policy might be developed on collective bargaining, Presence of freedom among workers, equality, and decision making, Establishment of Laws so as everybody should know their role and responsibility, Employer should aim to improve but not to punish, Meeting to discuss the situation, and establishment of communication
