Explain the reliance on the automobile affects the environment

INTRODUCTION
Over the course of the 20th century the automobile rapidly developed from an expensive toy for the rich into the practice or actual standard for passenger transport in most developed countries. In developing countries the effects of automobile have lagged, but are emulating the impacts of developed nations. The effects of the automobile on everyday life have been subject of controversy, especially to environmental sustainability. Despite its dramatic impact, the environmental history of the automobile is not easy to depict. Over the years, the cars have been viewed as a benefactor as well as can environment threat, as a boon to individualism, freedom and liberation and as the bane of modern society.

DEFINITION OF KEY TERMS
Automobile, a passenger vehicle designed for operation on ordinary roads and typically having four wheels and a gasoline or diesel internal combustion engine (dictionary.com, 2013).

Automobile is a means of transportation that usually has wheels and engine (yourdictionary.com).

Environment, the sum total of all surroundings of a living organism, including natural forces and other living things, which provide conditions for development and growth as well as of danger and damage (businessDictionary.com).

Environment, the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operate (OxfordDictionary.com, 2014).

The following are the reliance on the automobile affects the environment:-

Road destruction, Cars consumes a lot of energy before they ever make it to the open road. Automotive production leaves a giant footprint because materials like steel; rubber, glass, plastics, paints, and many more must be created before a new ride is ready to roll. Similarly, the end of a car’s life doesn’t mark the end of its environmental impact. Plastics, toxic battery acids, and other products may stay in the environment. Example those car are used during construction of roads around the street, they are too heavy compare with weight of the roads which have been constructed.

Air pollution, automobile has contributed a lot on air pollution and caused mass destruction of natural air. Smock released from burned oil cause air pollution also from industries, nitrous oxygen particulates. Both industries and its product pollute air pollutions.

Noise pollution, this affects environments indirectly and directly, meaning that pollution starts from industries which produce enough noise pollutions during its operation, but also the product produced which are cars also produces a lot of noises which pollute environment and atmosphere at all.

Global warming, through emission of various toxic airs like carbon dioxides which destructs ozone layer and contribute a lot in rising the degree of heat in the world which is commonly known as global warming. Therefore both automobile and industries causes global warming which is regarded as environmental pollution or destruction. Example sometimes you may find that the other cars driven while its produces smock more than the normal average which most of cars must produces during operating.

Land degradation, also automobile affects the environments specifically land in directly, as after production, cars needs safe and developed infrastructures to operates on, therefore they encourage clearing of field for roads constructions which is directly destruct environments and its well being.

Traffic congestion, availability of high number of cars concentrated on one area also has been one among the growing causative factor of environmental pollution. High traffic jams causes pollution, through horns, smock and also causes dirty and heavy air caused by congestion. City like Dar es Salaam in Tanzania is the most famous for high traffic jam because of higher congestion of cars.

Automobile oriented urban sprawl, this has affected lot developing countries. Compared to developed ones, many plain areas have been congested for the development of new infrastructures. This consumed natural habitant and agricultural land and in some areas at has caused property destruction like houses and trading centre.

CONCLUSION
The environment destruction in the places around have been caused by many reasons which caused by human activities. There are more efforts made by the people especially government within its department concerning environment conservation were the introduction of policy have been used as defensive mechanism to make sure no one around destructs the environment. But still there some effects which caused by automobile which its effects have been explained above. There are many ways which will work to conserve the environment like to limit the usage of roads and the kind of car should use. Also the recycling of materials should be taken as serious matter on how they will ensure where they will get those materials during making cars.
